About True Course

Practical help for the good years ahead, from a fellow traveler.

Hello, I’m Alan

I’m Alan Grodecki: a service-disabled veteran, husband, father and grandfather in my sixties. I spent much of my working life around ships. True Course is based in Fredericksburg, Texas.

At fifty I weighed 334 pounds. I lost two friends my own age inside a single year, and that got my attention. I changed how I ate, and eighty-four pounds came off. Then I learned what nobody warns you about: a neck and a back with their own opinions, and stairs that seemed to get longer every year. Gentle, seated movement became part of my morning, and it still is.

Why "True Course"

Sailors talk about your true course: the heading you actually hold after the wind and current have had their say. You don’t get a vote on the weather. You do get a vote on whether you keep heading where you meant to go.

That’s what this site is for: steady, practical help for the good years ahead, in large print and plain language.

What you’ll find here

A promise

I’ll keep it practical and honest. When I don’t know something, I’ll say so. Anything that touches your health comes with a reminder to check with your own doctor, because I’m a fellow traveler, not a medical professional.

Have a question or an idea for a post? Write to me. I read every message.
