Welcome Aboard: A Steady Heading for the Good Years Ahead
Who I am, what this page is for, and what you can expect each morning.

I’m Alan Grodecki. I’m in my sixties, I’m a veteran, and I spent a good part of my working life around ships. If you’ve ever stood on a deck and watched the compass while wind and current push you around, you already understand the idea behind this whole project.
Sailors talk about your true course: the heading you actually hold, after the weather has had its say. Not the plan you drew up on a calm day. The one you keep to on an ordinary Tuesday.
Why I started True Course Living
Somewhere past 60, a lot of us notice the winds shifting. The knees start filing complaints. Friends move closer to their grandkids. The calendar gets quieter, and the days can start to blur.
None of that means the good years are behind us. It means it’s time to set a steady heading and hold it.
I didn’t find much out there that spoke to people our age the way I wanted to be spoken to. Plenty of it was either too loud, too complicated, or talked to us like we’d forgotten how to tie our own shoes. I wanted something plain, practical and respectful. So I’m building it.
What you’ll find here
Every morning at 8:00 Central, I share one practical tip on Facebook and Instagram. Here on the website, each tip gets a fuller write-up like this one, in large print, with the details that don’t fit in a social media post.
The topics fall into four areas:
- Moving: gentle, seated and standing ways to stay steady and limber
- Eating well: simple meals, smart shopping, cooking for one or two
- Exploring: travel, day trips and trying new things
- Enjoying: friendships, learning, purpose and the small pleasures
It’s plain talk with no fluff. There’s nothing to buy unless you want to, and I’ll never flood your feed.
One promise, and one request
My promise: I’ll keep it practical, honest and easy to read. If I don’t know something, I’ll say so, and anything that touches your health comes with a reminder to talk it over with your own doctor.
Around the site you’ll also find free large-print printables and a list of trusted, free resources for the good years ahead.
My request: tell me what you’d like to see. The best ideas for this page will come from the people reading it.
Try this today
- Pick one thing you’d like to do more of this year: walk more, cook more, see a place you’ve never seen, call an old friend.
- Write it on a sticky note and put it where you’ll see it tomorrow morning.
That sticky note is your heading. Welcome aboard.
